Jayson Tatum, Derrick White exchange friendly jabs before 2024 Olympic Opening Ceremony

The Celtics representing Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics had plenty of fun ahead of Friday’s Opening Ceremony.

Jayson Tatum, Jrue Holiday, and Derrick White all made the trip to France as part of Team USA Basketball. USA Basketball caught up with Tatum and White prior to the ceremony, and asked White if he knew how to tie a tie.

White didn’t miss a beat in his response:

“I do. I watched JT’s tutorial.” White was referencing an old Youtube video posted by Jayson Tatum as a kid.

Tatum quipped back, “I aim to inspire people.”

White and Tatum, along with all of Team USA’s athletes, donned sport coats for the 2024 Olympics, although rain forced Tatum to wear a clear poncho over his during the team’s ride down the Seine River.

Tatum is still proudly waving his miniature American flag in the video posted on his Instagram.

White, Tatum, and Holiday all matched with jeans and white shoes with their sport coats and spent time together before the ceremony began. It appears the trio’s chemistry hasn’t missed a beat this summer.

Derrick White was a late addition to Team USA, but has made an impact on the court during his minutes of exhibition play. He helped Team USA avoid a historic upset to South Sudan a week before the Olympics.

His Celtics teammates clearly welcomed his presence on the team with open arms.

Team USA begins Olympic action on Sunday against Team Serbia at 11:15 a.m. Eastern Time.
