College football rankings 2024: Georgia, Ohio State, Oregon lead preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll

Georgia is ranked No. 1 in the USA Today Sports AFCA football coaches preseason poll for the second straight season.

The Bulldogs received 46 first-place votes. Georgia finished 13-1 in 2023 but missed the College Football Playoff. The Bulldogs are 42-2 the last three seasons under Kirby Smart.

Ohio State is ranked No. 2. The Buckeyes finished 11-2 last season, but coach Ryan Day enjoyed a fantastic offseason that included an elite transfer portal haul and the addition of offensive coordinator Chip Kelly. The Buckeyes – who were ranked No. 4 to start last season – received seven first-place votes.

Oregon – which moved to the Big Ten this season – is No. 3. Texas – which moved to the SEC this season – received one vote and is No. 4. Alabama, under first-year coach Kalen DeBoer, rounds out the top five.

The Coaches Poll differs slightly from Sporting News’ Top 25 – which features Georgia, Ohio State, Texas, Oregon and Notre Dame in the top five. The Irish are No. 7 in the Coaches Poll.
